National School Meals Week (NSMW) is the one week of the year when the school catering industry celebrates all that is GREAT about school food. We know many school caterers enjoy supporting this week and we hope you will do the same again this year.

Get involved

NSMW 2021 will be held 8th – 12th November, whether you are a local authority caterer or individual school it is easy to get involved.

The main theme for 2021 is ‘The School Tucker Trial’ we want more students than ever to get back into the dining room enjoying hot lunches, younger students can collect stars for each day of the week. There will be fun themed events planned from ‘Mix it up Monday’ where caterers will be swapping to meat free alternatives, and will end with the ’School Food Challenge’ where children can find out where their food comes from. With lots of fun event in-between.

Secondary schools can get involved by encouraging students to get involved by becoming a food ambassador and championing school food. Can you help us inspire young people to become passionate about what they eat?

Get planning

We need your help and support to make the event a great one. Creating a successful event is all down to planning, so we want to give you as much time as possible – all resources and activities can be found in the resource pages.

Get involved on social media

Don’t forget to promote everything you are doing on social media

Use the hashtags #NSMW2021 #LACA_UK #tasteforyourself #schooltuckertrial

Making theme days easy and fun

Theme days are easy to run and don’t need to cause extra time and expense. Tweaking existing menus, renaming dishes and adding activities which can be downloaded for free can make your event great fun and simple to run. Dressing up yourselves and the servery always adds fun to the day.

Getting press coverage and social media coverage

On the resource pages you will find templates and letters to help you get your local press involved, they can be downloaded and edited for free. Getting them involved will raise the profiles of school lunches not only in your area but across the country. Most people use social media daily, so why not check in on the NSMW pages each day during the week. Use images of your food and events to capture attention, a picture says a 1000 words. Use the hashtags on all posts and the NSMW team will repost and share your news and posts. Encourage parents and staff members to share too.

Promote school food all year round

You can use the website all year round, you will find free resources and activities and recipe ideas which can help with themed events, visit the resource pages for ideas.
