NSMW ‘Taste for Yourself’ Tour to visit Quorn Factory in LACA North East
LACA NSMW’s first port of call on the Taste for Yourself tour of all ten LACA regions, will be at the Quorn factory in Billingham, Stockton-On-Tees.
In the week where we celebrate all that is great about school meals, the visit highlights how important it is for education caterers to be aware of food trends and the need to cater for special diets amongst its customers.
The number of vegans in Great Britain quadrupled between 2014 and 2018 which shows veganism has been growing exponentially; add in vegetarians and flexitarians and it is estimated that those groupings will represent just under half of all UK consumers by the year 2025.
Currently 10% of British children between the ages of 8 to 16 are vegan or vegetarian and 44% consciously try to consume less meat, dairy and eggs and virtually every school in the country has meat free alternatives on its menus on a daily basis.
LACA recognises the importance of an industry that focuses on improving the personal health of the children in its care, whilst at the same time improving the health of the planet. Sustainability is the watchword and our visit to the North East on November 11th should give us an even greater insight as to what the future holds.
