LACA Wales is final destination for ‘Taste for Yourself’ Tour

After a great start to the day in Bridport, Dorset it was to was time to pack up and head up the M5 and across the M4 to Caerphilly, for the last stop on what has been a fantastic journey across all the LACA regions. The ‘Taste for Yourself’ tour has delivered some powerful messages on education catering, at each stop along the route and with the finishing line in sight it was time for the final statement to be delivered by LACA Wales.

The visit to Transcend Packaging Limited at Ty Dyffryn, Dyffryn Business Park, Caerphillyin the LACA Wales Region on Thursday 14th November at 2.00pm, was a vital opportunity to highlight the importance of moving to more biodegradable products and encourage both caterers and suppliers to reduce the use of single use plastic. LACA Members are encouraged to ensure that plastic packing is reusable, recyclable or compostable and there is a consensus across the education catering industry that we must collectively do more. Our Main Event this year sought to create a healthier and more sustainable future, where we held a session and panel event that looked at what the school food sector can do to reduce packaging and improve recycling to assist the global challenge of reducing plastic waste.

LACA Wales Regional Chair, Judith Gregory, welcomed everyone and said “So we have come to the end of the LACA NSMW ‘Taste for Yourself’ tour and we are delighted that the last stop is the LACA Wales region. We are here today to support all our initiatives, which include reducing the use of single-use plastics and promoting re-cycling.”

Emily Thomas, Transcend Packaging client relations executive, commented: “It’s great to see so many schools using sustainable plastic-free packaging and great to see more schools getting on board”

To conclude Labour Party Candidate for Islwyn, Chris Evans, said “I’ve got so many schools in the constituency and so many young people concerned about the single use of plastics and it’s fantastic to see schools being certified as using bio-degradable packaging”
